While most people saw the documentary Super Size Me as an expose of the fast food industry, comedian and former health writer Tom Naughton saw it as a dare: He’d show that you could lose weight on a diet of burgers and fries. In addition to chronicling Naughton’s weight drop, the film provides interviews with doctors, nutritionists and others to drive home his thesis that most of what we know about “healthy eating” is wrong.

  1. I think this doc is more truthful than supersize me, because it's less extreme.
But still, he did not factor in some things:
He lost more weight than he should have: yeah mate. Cause you lost waterweight too.
Starch does not act exactly like sugar in the body, there is a difference between glucose and fructose and what they do in the body and the liver, and sugar contains a molecule of fructose while starch does not.
For more info see "the bitter truth about sugar".
That does not mean we should only eat starches, in fact I limit them myself somewhat, but it is a bit too easy to just throw everything into the same bucket

  2. I can't agree with the "Advertising to kids is part of free speech" part. It just fuels the obesity problem. There's some single moms who have 2 jobs, why make their lives harder by making their kids want junk food. And u just blame it on the parents not saying "no". Why create the problem in the first place?

  3. Moose and Squirrel LOL!!! I used to eat at that McDonalds hes interviewing people at frequently. Its on Hollywood Blvd. I worked a few doors down.

  4. "I almost never drink the stuff because I feel lousy when I do."

When I was a kid, I use to drink a lot of soda. I was a sodaholic essentially. But a few years ago I just felt like shit. And realized I needed to change my habits as I got older.

So I started eating healthier. Eating salads and protein. But more importantly I cut back my daily intake of soda and substituted to water. And low and behold, I lost like 50 pounds in about a year. Most of it was because I cut back the soda. All that sugar was too much.

Now whenever I do drink soda, it's not as much as I use to. Because my body has gotten so use to water, whenever I drink soda, it feels HEAVY in my stomach. And it does make me feel lousy sometimes.

  5. Being that I literally can’t gain weight, much like his son, Super-size me when I was in the 8th grade broke me emotionally. i have long since had body trouble. This video is so important.

“Men use more energy than women, even to breathe…They need more calories than women.
Higher levels of activity require more fuel, so his dietary needs are quantitatively greater than hers.”

“Men need a ready, steady supply of zinc in their diet because a lack of it impairs the metabolism of
androgens, which are the essential male hormones; and where is zinc most readily found? In red meat.”

“…phytates (in whole wheat/whole grain products) block the zinc uptake. Phytates also bind with iron
& calcium, two other essential micronutrients, & so prevent their absorption. Phytates are undesirable,
but the protein in red meat acts as an anti-phytate agent.”

“Soy is the richest source of estrogen (a feminizing hormone) in today’s diet,
and estrogen & similar substances are known to cause reproductive tract disorders in men.
Soy is the richest source of phytoestrogens & its consumption, especially as a substitute
for meat protein, has increased enormously in the past two or more decades.”

“Does it matter that the professionals—the nutritionists & the dieticians—are so overwhelmingly
female? Yes it does, for they are imposing on men a diet which is ill-based on science, ill-suited to
the male’s metabolism & drawn more from feminine fantasy than from food science.”

(quoting Dr. Anita Wells, regarding the results of a test conducted on a group of men & women):
“‘Everyone says that eating low-fat diets will cut cholesterol, but the science doesn’t demonstrate it.’”

  7. Calories in vs calories out people it's not hard. Consume less calories than you expel and you will lose weight. Consume more calories than you expel and you will gain weight.

  8. I hate both this documentary and supersize me

Will I gain weight if I eat nothing but garbage for a month and not work out? Yes

Will I lose weight if I eat garbage for a month and work out?
    Yes

There I saved you a total of 3 hours
